India will resume all categories of international postal services to the United States from October 15, 2025. This move comes after a two-month suspension due to regulatory changes in the United States. A new system that ensures compliance with US customs regulations will allow India Post to deliver mail to US addresses without delays or legal hurdles.

Why were postal services suspended?

In August 2025, the US issued an Executive Order that changed the way import duties are charged on low-value international parcels.

The duty-free limit previously in place was removed and all parcels were subject to import duties under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

India Post did not have the mechanism to collect advance fees from US Customs, leading to the suspension of all postal services to the US from 22 August 2025.

New Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) Model India Post has introduced Delivery Duty Paid (DDP)
system to address the problem of :

Import duty will be collected at the time of booking the parcel in India.

This fee will be remitted in advance to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) through a U.S. approved “Qualified Party.”

A flat fee of 50% of the declared FOB value of the parcel will be charged, without any additional tariffs or category-based rates.

This will speed up customs clearance, eliminate last-mile delays, and prevent unexpected charges for U.S. recipients. There will be no additional fees for using the DDP facility.

The following services will be available again for the United States beginning October 15, 2025:

These services will be available at all India Post offices, International Business Centres and through the online portal.
