Akbar replied, ‘Birbal, my dearest friend, you are right. There is indeed a riddle that has been troubling me. An idle thought, which came to me in passing, is now my cause of worry. I am troubled because I cannot find an answer to a simple question – what is the fastest thing on this planet?
Birbal said, ‘Is that all, your Majesty? Call your courtiers together. Let us see if one of them can answer. If not, then I am certain I can tell you of the fastest thing on the planet.’
বঙ্গানুবাদঃ আকবর বললেন, ‘বীরবল, আমার প্রিয় বন্ধু, তুমি ঠিকই বলেছ। সত্যিই একটি ধাঁধা আছে যা আমাকে বিরক্ত করছে। একটি নিষ্ক্রিয় চিন্তা, যা আমার কাছে চলে এসেছে, সেটাই এখন আমার চিন্তার কারণ। আমি উদ্বিগ্ন কারণ আমি একটি সহজ প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজে পাচ্ছি না – এই গ্রহের দ্রুততম জিনিস কী?
বীরবল বললেন, মহারাজ, এটুকুই কি? আপনার দরবারীদের একত্রে ডাকুন। দেখা যাক তাদের কেউ উত্তর দিতে পারে কিনা। যদি তা না পারে, তবে আমি নিশ্চিত যে আমি আপনাকে এই গ্রহের দ্রুততম জিনিস সম্পর্কে বলতে পারি।’

Ans: Thirsty Crow:
One Hot summer day, a crow became very thirsty. He flew in search of water, but he did not get water. At last, he saw a pitcher in the garden. At once he flew to it with great delight. But the water was at the bottom of the pitcher. So the crow could not drink water. Then he looked around and saw some pebbles lying nearby. He thought of a plan. He took the pebbles one by one and dropped them into the pitcher. At last, slowly, the water reached the neck of the pitcher. Finally, The crow drank water to his heart’s content and flew away.
Moral- “There is a will there is a way.”
তৃষ্ণার্ত কাক:
এক গ্রীষ্মের দিনে, একটি কাক খুব তৃষ্ণার্ত হয়ে উঠল। সে জলের খোঁজে উড়ে গেল, কিন্তু জল পেল না। অবশেষে বাগানে একটি কলসি দেখতে পেল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে খুব আনন্দের সঙ্গে সে উড়ে কলসিটির কাছে গেল। কিন্তু জল কলসির একেবারে তলায় ছিল। তাই সে জল পান করতে পারল না। তারপর সে চারপাশে তাকিয়ে দেখল, কাছাকাছি কিছু নুড়ি পড়ে আছে। সে একটা পরিকল্পনা করল। এক এক করে নুড়িগুলো নিয়ে কলসিতে ফেলে দিল। শেষপর্যন্ত আস্তে আস্তে জল কলসির কানায় এসে পৌছালো। অবশেষে, কাকটি তার হৃদয়ের তৃপ্তি করে জল পান করে উড়ে গেল।
নীতিকথা- “ইচ্ছা থাকলে উপায় হয়।”

1. Read the text carefully and answer the following questions:
Every little stone that you see lying in the road or on the mountain side may be a little page in nature’s book and may be able to tell you something if you only knew how to read it. To be able to read any language Hindi or Urdu or English, you have to learn its alphabet. So also you must learn the alphabet of nature before you can read her story in her books of stone and rock. Even now perhaps you know a little how to read this. If you see a little round shiny pebble, does it not tell you something? How did it get round and smooth and shiny without any corners or rough edges? If you break a big rock into small bits, each bit is rough and has corners and rough edges. It is not at all like a round smooth pebble. How then did the pebble become so round and smooth and shiny? It will tell you its story if you have good eyes to see and ears to hear it. It tells you that once upon a time, it may be long ago, it was a beat of a rock just like the bit you may break from a big rock or stone with plenty of edges and corner’s.
