1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu highlighted the Central government’s efforts to enhance healthcare access in the country. The President was addressing the 10th Convocation Ceremony of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi.
2. The stage is set for voting for the third and final phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir today. Total 40 Assembly constituencies spread over 7 districts will go to the polls in this phase.
3. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Launches ‘Cruise Bharat Mission,’ to Double Cruise Calls and Passengers within Five years. Mission aims at creation of 4 lakh jobs in the revamped Cruise Sector in India.
4. The Maharashtra government granted the status of Rajyamata-Gomata to desi cows in the state. This is the first time that such a title has been bestowed on any creature. In a government resolution (GR) passed by the dairy development department, the state specified that the status of Rajyamata will be extended only to desi cows.
5. Campaigning has intensified for assembly elections in Haryana with the polling date approaching closer. Voting for the 90 assembly seats in the state will be held on the 5th of October. The counting of votes will take place on 8th October.
6. Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi virtually inaugurated eleven thousand Saksham Anganwadi Centres across the country from Ranchi.
7. In Bihar, Flood waters entered several new areas even as water discharged from Kosi and Gandak barrages is reaching different river systems. Relief operations have been intensified in flood affected areas.
8. On the occasion of World Translation Day, Jawahar Lal Nehru University-JNU organised a lecture on Role of Translation to Protect the Cultural Heritage. The primary focus of the event was to make people aware of conserving literature heritage of the world.
9. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released a Consultation Paper on “Formulating a Digital Radio Broadcast Policy for private Radio broadcasters”. TRAI has initiated the process to seek stakeholders’ comments on various issues relating to formulation of digital radio broadcast policy for private Radio broadcasters. Stakeholders can write comments on the consultation paper till 28th October.
10. Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel inaugurated a national workshop on people’s plan campaigns famously known as Sabki Yojana Sabka Vikas in New Delhi. The workshop aims to equip officials, elected representatives, and other stakeholders with the necessary skills and strategies for preparation of high-quality and effective Panchayat Development Plans.
11. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.K. Stalin has requested the External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to take strong and effective diplomatic measures to prevent the arrest of the fishermen from Tamil Nadu and to secure the release of all the arrested fishermen and their fishing boats from the Sri Lankan authorities.
12. The Telangana government’s decision to demolish 10,000-odd dwellings along the Musi river in Hyderabad and adjoining districts has triggered massive protests from the residents, even as the authorities on Saturday assured that all steps would be taken to rehabilitate the displaced families.
13. M V Shreyams Kumar of Mathrubhumi was elected President of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS), an apex body of publishers of newspapers, magazines and periodicals in the country. He will succeed Rakesh Sharma of Aaj Samaj.

1. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment signed an agreement with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to extend support and provide legal aid services to marginalized people across the country. Addressing the event in New Delhi today, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar said that this initiative will empower poor and weaker sections of society with free legal services.
2. The Madras High Court recently held that the UGC regulations prescribing setting up of a selection committee for the appointment of assistant professor was not applicable to minority institutions. The court also observed that mandating the UGC regulation of selection committees to these institutions would interfere with their autonomous status.
3. The Karnataka High Court has stayed further investigation, till 22 October, in a FIR registered against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others for allegedly extorting money under the guise of electoral bonds.
4. The Supreme Court on Monday said there is currently nothing to show that animal fat was used in the preparation of Tirupathi laddus during the previous Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) regime in Andhra Pradesh.
The court said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu should have “kept the Gods away from politics” before rushing in to make public statements based on unsure facts that lard was used to prepare the laddus in the previous regime, impacting the religious sentiments of crores of people across the world.
5. The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill has received formal letters from the Syro-Malabar Church and the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council (KCBC), requesting significant amendments to the Waqf Act of 1995. Both have expressed concerns over the alleged unlawful claims by the Waqf Board on Christian properties in Kerala.
6. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested 26 key operatives of a highly organized cyber crime network involved in fraudulent activities targeting victims globally. CBI arrested these accused after conducting coordinated multi-city searches at 32 locations to dismantle a major technology enabled crime network.
7. Wife of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Parvathi has written to Mysuru Urban Development Authority for surrendering 14 plots allotted to her after the Enforcement Directorate on Monday booked the CM, his wife and some others in a money laundering case linked to the MUDA land allotment case.
8. The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to Assam’s government. This follows a petition by 47 residents who claim the state ignored a court order against demolitions without approval. A Supreme Court order on September 17 prohibited demolitions nationwide without judicial approval unless involving public roads, footpaths, railway lines, or water bodies.

1. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a meeting iItanagar yesterday to review the performance seven Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) in the North East region. The meeting focused on improving business performance, enhancing digital technology services, and promoting growth in agriculture and MSME sectors.
2. Shankh Air, India’s latest airline, is poised to make its debut by the end of 2024 after receiving approval from the civil aviation ministry. This marks a significant development for Uttar Pradesh as Shankh Air aims to become the state’s first scheduled airline. Shankh Air is designed to connect major cities across India, with initial services planned for Lucknow, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur.

1. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has been awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his iconic contributions to Indian cinema. The announcement was made by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
PM Modi has expressed his admiration for veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the upcoming 70th National Film Awards ceremony. This accolade, which represents the highest honor in Indian cinema, will be presented on 8 October 2024.
2. Superstar Rajinikanth (73) was reportedly taken to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Monday night. Hospital sources added that his health condition is stable. The elective procedure would be performed in cath lab on Tuesday (October 1, 2024).
3. Actor Vikas Sethi, best known for TV shows such as Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahiin To Hoga, and Sasural Simar Ka, died in Nashik on Saturday night in his sleep following a cardiac arrest. He was 48. According to his wife Jhanvi Sethi, they were in Nashik to attend a family function.

1. Indian Army Organises high-altitude marathon in Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti valley. The marathon was conducted in four categories on September 28-29, 2024, witnessed enthusiastic participation of the locals and distinguished runners from across the country.
2. The Eighth edition of India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced in Uttarakhand. The Indian Armed Forces comprising 120 personnel are represented by a battalion of the KUMAON Regiment of the Indian Army.
3. As India sets its sight on hosting the 2036 Olympics, the Army on Monday hosted a sports conclave that serves as a crucial platform to align efforts and contribute to this national mission with a “comprehensive roadmap”. Indian Army’s Mission Olympics Wing was established in 2001, under which a total of 9,000 sportspersons are training at 28 different sports nodes.
The Indian armed forces have a long and distinguished tradition of contributing to the country’s sporting achievements, particularly in prestigious international competitions such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.
4. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) appointed IPS Nalin Prabhat as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. He is set to assume charge from October 1. Till then, he will work as the Special Director-General (DG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
5. The Indian Army signed the eighth procurement contract through the government’s flagship initiative Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) in New Delhi. The Ministry of Defence said that the contract for procurement of Generation of Quantum Secure Key (Quantum Key Distribution) was signed with QuNu Labs in the presence of Vice Chief of the Army Staff Lieutenant General NC Raja Subramani.
iDEX aimed to create an eco-system to foster innovations and encourage technological development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging Research and Development Institutes, Academia, and Industries including MSMEs, Start-Ups, and individual innovators.
6. The 2024 edition of the annual apex-level international conference of the Indian Navy, the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) with the theme ‘Resource-Geopolitics and Security in the Indo-Pacific’ will be held in New Delhi from the 3rd to the 5th October.

The 4th battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) organised a cultural programme and a community interaction event for trainee officers of the 99th foundation course of the Mussoorie (Uttarakhand)-based Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Chug Valley in West Kameng district.

7. Sri Lanka’s inflation rate fell to minus 0.5 per cent in September 2024, down from 0.5 per cent in August, marking the first deflation in nearly four decades.
